A-Z Recommendation J: Jurassic Park

Our book recommendation for the letter J for YA is... Jurassic Park

The Jurassic Park series of movies are based on this book and the sequel.

If you enjoy this book you will probably enjoy ‘The Great Zoo of China’ by Matthew Riley.

First published in 1990, this book is a science-fiction thriller that has become a timeless classic and has spawned an amazing series of movies.  If you’ve seen the movie, take a chance and read the book, it’s amazing!

Billionaire John Hammond has a plan to bring dinosaurs back from extinction and wants to create an amazing dinosaur theme park.  His scientists retrieve dinosaur DNA from an ancient fossil and we’re on the way!

Hammond establishes his theme park ‘Jurassic Park’ on the island of Isla Nublar, off the coast of Costa Rica.  Before the park opens to the public Hammond invites his grandchildren to visit him there, along with paleantologists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler, mathematician Ian Malcolm, and a representative of his investors.

The group travel through the park and are amazed to see dinosaurs living in the wild.  Things change when one of the park’s worker shuts down the security system so he can steal some dinosaur embryos for a rival company.  Then the trouble starts, the dinosaurs are no longer enclosed, they escape and cause chaos in the park. It also appears that although the dinosaurs are all supposed to be females they are breeding and there are more than they believe, and they are much smarter than anyone thinks they are.
